Braid Dental was formed in February 2017 when the current principal dentist, Jamie Pirie, acquired the long-standing existing dental practice at 21-23 Castle Street, Ballymena.

The team at Braid Dental is made up of dedicated, caring dental professionals who are committed to providing dental care of the highest standards.

Dr Jamie Pirie BDS (Dundee 1991)

GDC No: 67091

Jamie studied dentistry at the University of Dundee qualifying in December 1991. Following this he worked as an associate dentist in Scotland before relocating to Northern Ireland in 2001 with his Ballymena born wife. Jamie has spent the last few years as an associate dentist building up a strong client base in the North Antrim area prior to becoming owner and principal dentist at Braid Dental. Jamie strives to deliver relaxed painless dentistry and has a wealth of experience in the provision of safe, high quality family dental care. He is well respected by his peers and has previously served a 3-year term as Chairperson of the Northern Area Local Dental Committee. Out of work Jamie is an IFA qualified football coach, plays the occasional round of golf and reads as many sports autobiographies as his busy life allows! He enjoys nothing more than spending quality time with his wife and two children.

Dr Sandra Whittaker BDS (Belfast 2001)

Sandra graduated with distinction from Queen’s University Belfast in 2001. She is a family-orientated dentist who has built up an excellent rapport with her patients since joining the practice in 2004. Sandra enjoys all aspects of dentistry but has a keen interest in cosmetic treatments, such as adult tooth straightening and facial line softening. Outside of work, she enjoys baking and spending time with her other half and two girls, often being found in Fermanagh Lakelands or North Coast.

Dr Sheena MacKinson BDS (Glasgow 2001)

GDC No: 79241

Sheena studied at the University of Glasgow, graduating in 2001. She began her career in the South East of England working there for nearly 10 years developing her knowledge and skills in all aspects of general family dentistry before relocating with her family to Northern Ireland. Sheena continually aims to provide high quality dentistry with optimum patient comfort and care. She is particularly successful in the management of nervous patients who she readily puts at ease and can provide treatment under RA conscious sedation if necessary. Sheena regularly attends postgraduate training courses and has taken her interest in facial aesthetics to the next level recently by completing further training in the delivery of wrinkle smoothing injectables and is now delighted to be offering these treatments at Braid Dental

Claire Berrisford RDH (Belfast 2012)

Claire qualified as a hygienist from the School of Dental Hygiene in Belfast in 2012. She previously qualified as a Dental Nurse at Kings College Hospital, London in 1998. Claire worked within private practice in London before moving to Scotland where she worked within community dental clinics in Dunbartonshire. She returned home to study Dental Hygiene and has spent the last five years working within general dental practice. In her spare time, Claire enjoys baking and spending time with her friends and family.
